Compare Business Healthcover
Health insurance if you are self-employed
Self-employed and sole traders usually need individual PMI, not SME group cover. How that differs from company schemes and when a limited company should use group PMI instead.
If you have no employees, you are not buying SME group PMI. You need individual private medical insurance (or an international plan if you live abroad). If you operate a limited company and employ someone — including another director — you may be back on a two-life group quote.
Why group pages do not apply
Group rates and group underwriting need a group. One person is a personal policy. Tax relief for the self-employed is not the same as a company’s deduction for staff PMI. Use an accountant.
If you also employ people
Then compare small company group cover for the staff, and decide separately whether you as owner sit on that scheme. See the director page.
